One Last LO from the Wildberry Cobbler Kit!

I have one last LO to show you from April's kit.

This one was also done for the Scrapping Across the Universe Challenge #14!

The prompt was the Beatles song "I get by with a little help from my friends"

Here's my take on it:
Sorry the pic isn't the best, I don't have my camera today to take a better one as my DH took it to go on a retreat this weekend.

The journaling reads: "Falling asleep is always a little easier with some help from his friends"

Be sure to check out our blog tomorrow as we will be announcing the GCD giveaway winner!!

Also, be sure to check out our forum tomorrow as we are hosting a National Scrapbooking Day crop on Fri and Sat and will be on the forum to give you some challenges to meet. You could even win something if you decide to come out and play...

Yes, MORE free stuff!!

Later!

Technique Tuesday

Hi guys!

For this week's technique, I want to show you an easy way to make an interesting background for your layouts.

First, you have to find a cardstock shape. It can be a chipboard star or heart.... I used a cardstock paper plate.

I painted the edges, but not perfectly... so that the shape isn't as well...

I added splashes of paint here and there.

Here is the final page...

One last little hint. Add a little bit of water to your acrylic paint. It will be a lot easier to achieve a great look!

Hope you like this technique!

Kim

Happy monday!

Hey guys, here's a layout I did with Bree's kit. I just found the perfect photo to fit the kit and I am so happy about it.

It's an old photo about my father going for the first time to school... in 1951!

I made a copy of the photo and I distressed the edges... my photo really looks like the original one!

I also used a little ornament that came with the very first kit, here, at Crop Suey!

So here it is!

Check out the Technique Tuesdays for the how-to of my background paper...

Saturday...or Sunday...

I usually am good about meeting deadlines, but have to apologize that I didn't post yesterday.

I woke up thinking I was in control of my day and then "life" stepped in and decided to take over.

Next thing I realized it was Sunday and I'm still not too sure where Saturday has gone.

I am going to offer you a little teaser of what is in one of next month's kit. If you have a keen eye, it's quite obvious!
This LO was made with the packaging from the paper. Love how some manufacturers make their packaging so fun to work with!!

Bree is awesome at making minis with packaging, I think that was a tutorial Tuesday a few weeks ago! It's amazing the things that woman creates...I look to her for so much creativity.

I'm not sure I've mentioned this before, but beautiful Bree is the "sprinkles" on my cupcake!

She is what keeps me motivated when the walls seem to be closing in.

Thanks Bree...my wonderful sprinkles.

Technique Tuesday - Altering a Frame

So i was debating and debating on what to share with you guys today,
so I decided to share a little tutorial on how to alter a thrift store find frame into something FABULOUS!
To my surprise, I found out I made the Catwalk over at SIStv with this little beauty!
So now I am super excited running around my office squealing.....
So let's check out the frame
BEFORE

(I only paid $3.00 - what a steal)

AFTER
So are you ready to create this little beauty...
Here's What you'll need:
*frame
*paint
*fabric (vintage is even better)
*hot glue gun and glue
*cupcake liners
*Scissors
*stapler
*chandelier crystal (mine is from the $1 bin at Michael's)
*buttons (vintage are always better)
*pencil
*tulle
*gems
*flower punch

So let's get crafting!
Paint your frame
Fit the fabric onto the mat.

Cut down the fabric to about 1" wider than the original mat.

Pull the fabric tight and staple the the fabric on the edges of the mat.
These staples will be hidden when you add the frame on top.

Hot glue the fabric covered mat to the frame.

CUPCAKE LINER FLOWERS
I made 2 of my 3 flowers out of cupcake liners.
Pile 3 or 4 liners on top of each other, and adhere them together.
(I used glue dots in between each layer)

Snip into the liners to create petals

Fold stacked liners in half.

With your fingers pry the bloom open.

Smoosh the flower base flat and open the bloom to create your flower.
It doesn't have to be perfect..

Add a button and a gem.
I trimmed around my bloom to make it smaller to fit the frame.

Select a monogram, or word.
If you don't have the color you want... paint one.
I needed a much larger letter than i had in a solid color,
so i painted a patterned "B" yellow.
(note: don't throw out those egg cartons, event though they can't be recycled.
they make great paint trays!)

PUNCHED FLOWERS
Use your flower punch, die cutter, or premade flowers.
I used 4 flower shapes.
I also cut strips into the petals for more fullness
Ink the edges ( i used yellow) and curl the petals up
by rolling the edges on your ben.

Taking 2 pieces of tulle cut into circles
(i used some from the dollar store - intended for wedding favors)
fold the circles in half once,
and then again.
Cut a rounded petal shape.
Add a brad then tulle then flowers.
I also added a gem to the top of the brad.

Hot glue your blooms onto your frame.

Embellish with your crystal, vintage buttons ( i love them stacked)
I used hot glue to adhere the buttons to the frame.

Well.. that's it.
What do you guys think?
Did you learn anything new?
Will you make one for yourself?
Do you like project ideas as well as techniques, like today?
Leave a comment and let me know what you think....
I love hearing from you guys..

And don't forget about the GCD Giveaway...
you still have until April 30th to get your name in...

FuNkY FrIdAy!

Hey all you FuNKy ladies! Today I am going to share a cool way to customize clothing for whatever your FuNKy needs may be. I am currently enrolled in an Art Class at the Alberta Art Gallery, and this week we designed and cut out our own stencils, and used fabric paint or bleach over the stencil to customize some old boring clothes.

First you will need a blank piece of paper to do your sketch on.

Then take a tranparency sheet and place it over the sketch, cut out.

Place it over your article of clothing, grab some fabric paint and a paint brush, and voila!! You have a super cool custom FuNKy piece of art to wear!!! Doesn't get much FunKIeR than that!

Have a fabulous FuNKy weekend!

Technique Tuesday- How to recycle your Packaging into a Mini!

So if you guys didn't already know.. I am a huge recycler.
Live Green...right?
I am always holding onto these little packages that embellishments come in.
Heres one way of turning that cute packaging into a mini album.
7Gypsies packaging is a great example.
Let me show you how to turn this little beauty into something spectacular!

This gorgeous little chipboard piece is the covering to the AMAZING little elastics that come in you FRENCH TOAST kit.
Fold the package in half, tucking one edge under the packagings flap... like a matchbook.
Here's another view

Next cover your book with patterned paper..
I used a GCD paper form their PARIS NIGHTS collection.
It is velvet flocked..very chic.

Next measure the inside of your mini, and cut papers to size.

And fold in half.

I cut 4 pieces , and adhered them, back to back to each other.
Adhering the ends of the last 2 pages to the cover... to create your book.
I mixed up the papers form the kit.
And then add photos and embellies.

I hope this inspired you to use those covers from your products.

I also wanted to share this little accordion mini I created for my Dad for his 60th birthday!
I created this using scraps and a vintage matchbox...
it only took about 20 mins to create.
(Thanks Elaine for the fabulous goodies, including this matchbox)

So go dig through your recycle box, and see what treasures you can create with.
See you tomorrow,

Bree
